DESCRIPTION:*Abstract:*\nIn the talk\, I will explore some of the technica
l challenges associated with the sequestration of carbon dioxide into deep
saline aquifers and oil fields. This includes challenges for modelling th
e dispersion of the CO2 in subsurface aquifers\, and challenges of monitor
ing the resulting CO2 plumes. The talk will be illustrated with a series o
f simplified laboratory experiments and models to quantify some of the dom
inant dynamics. \n\n*Biography:*\nAndy Woods is the BP Professor in the BP
Institute\, University of Cambridge. His research is focussed on the dyna
mics of fluid flows related to energy and the environment\, including mult
iphase flow through permeable layered rocks\, flows in geothermal systems\
, volcanic flows and air flows through buildings. He has an MA and PhD in
applied mathematics from University of Cambridge.
