DESCRIPTION:Let p be any prime and n be any natural number. Let \\chi be a
  p'-irreducible character of the symmetric group S_n\, that is\, whose deg
 ree is coprime to p.\nWe bound the number of p'-irreducible constituents o
 f the restriction of \\chi to S_{n-1}\, and also the number of such consti
 tuents in the induction of \\chi to S_{n+1}.\nThis generalizes work of Ayy
 er\, Prasad and Spallone for the prime p=2.\nThis is joint work with E. Gi
 annelli and S. Martin.
