DESCRIPTION:Layer-2 technologies\, in particular Ethernet\, are increasing
ly being used to create large-scale network infrastructures capable of sus
taining many independent higher-layer (e.g. IP) networks. However\, Ether
net is showing its age: it scales poorly in several different aspects. In
this talklet I will outline some of Ethernet's failings\, and my work to
address one of these: the requirement for switches to learn and store the
location of every node on the network. My modified Ethernet\, named MOOSE
\, addresses this issue in a novel way which solves the problem more compl
 etely than previous attempts.
