planet formation - Richard Parker (Sheffield)

DESCRIPTION:Most stars form in groups\, or clusters\, where the stellar de
nsity exceeds the density of the Milky Way disc by several orders of magni
tude. In these dense environments interactions between stars are common an
d can affect both protoplanetary discs and the orbits of fledgling planeta
ry systems. In this talk I will describe how the the star-forming environm
ent has both a negative and a positive impact on the formation and evoluti
 on of planetary systems.
