DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Domain walls in statistical systems are extended obj
ects and\nhence by definition non-local. Since the models are defined by l
ocal\nHamiltonians\, typically containing only nearest neighbour interacti
ons\,\nproviding a description of these domain walls is a non-trivial task
 . In\nthis talk\, I shall explain how a mathematical description of these\
ncurves has arisen at the critical point\, based only on an interpretation
\nof what is meant by the conformal invariance of the curves. This is\nkno
wn as Schramm Loewner evolution (SLE)\, predictions of which are seen\nto
correspond to well-known correlation functions in conformal field\ntheory.
Some new results\nare presented: in particular\, SLE is seen to be an ade
quate description\nof curves in the 3-state model with symmetry breaking b
oundary\nconditions\, even though SLE is necessarily reflection symmetric.
