DESCRIPTION:Color images are a fundamental part of daily life in academics
\, business\,\nmanufacturing and leisure. Unfortunately\, the actual defin
ition\, description\nand meaning of color remains only vaguely understood
by most engineers. For\nexample\, most technical people know that color is
often represented by a\ntriplet of red\, green and blue values\, (RGB)\,
but may not be clear about how\nthose values have been obtained\, transfor
med or their relationship to the\nperception of the displayed color. \n\nT
his seminar will acquaint the participant with the fundamentals of\ncolori
metry\, the science of measuring color\, and its application in imaging.\n
We will describe the color characteristics of common imaging input and\nou
tput devices. The advantages and limitations of the devices and the\nvario
us forms of color information will be discussed. An important topic is\nth
e practical communication of color information and its implementation in a
\nmultimedia environment\, where various types of input devices need to\ni
nterface with various types of output devices. The tutorial will indicate\
ncurrent problems\, possible research areas and where advanced signal\npro
cessing techniques can be used effectively. \n\n
