DESCRIPTION:Synchronization processes in populations of locally interactin
g elements are in the focus of intense research in physical\, biological\,
chemical\, technological and social systems. The many efforts devoted to
understand synchronization phenomena in natural systems take now advantage
of the recent theory of complex networks. I report the advances in compre
hension obtained\, and new features observed\, when synchronizable oscilla
ting elements are subjected to interact in a complex network topology\, ma
inly populations of coupled Kuramoto oscillators. I also include a review
of applications of synchronization in complex networks to several discipli
nes: biological systems and neuroscience\, engineering and computer scienc
e\, and economy and social sciences.\n
