DESCRIPTION:The energy needed by cells is generated by cellular power plan
 ts\, called mitochondria. Besides energy generation they are involved in a
  wide range of cellular processes\, including regulation of cell death and
  initiation of inflammatory responses. This central role led to a great in
 terest in mitochondria as pharmacological targets. We do\, however\, only 
 have limited knowledge about the mechanisms by which drugs enter the mitoc
 hondria to exert beneficial or adverse effects. In this talk I will discus
 s how drugs can affect mitochondria and how we are investigating their mit
 ochondrial uptake. (no prior knowledge about mitochondria or pharmacology 
 is necessary)
