DESCRIPTION:It is well known to any farmer that potassium (K) supply stron
gly impacts on nitrogen usage efficiency and disease resistance of crops b
ut the molecular processes underlying these interactions are poorly unders
tood. Using Arabidopsis thaliana as a model species we have over the last
years assembled a large dataset detailing the effects of K deficiency on i
on homeostasis\, as well as primary and secondary metabolism. We have furt
her analysed regulatory mechanisms supporting plant adaptation to K defici
ency at the level of hormones\, transcripts and enzyme activities. Based o
n this information I will present our current molecular models explaining
K-nitrogen and K-disease interactions observed in the field.\n\nhttp://www
