DESCRIPTION:Strong progress has been made in the geometric understanding o
f macroscopic evolution equations for \nprobability densities in the last
decades\, which often lead to gradient structures in transport metrics. \n
Since frequently microscopic evolution laws can be formulated in a similar
way\, it is a natural question \nhow to proceed from the microscopic to t
he macroscopic structures. Strong progress has been made recently \ne.g. v
ia large deviation functionals\, but we want instead take a standard route
in statistical mechanics \nand consider equation hierarchies for marginal
s and define a (at this point formal) gradient flow structure \non them. W
e discuss the transport problems and corresponding mean-field limits from
fluid dynamic and \nKantorovich type perspectives. Moreover\, we comment o
n possible implications on higher-order closures of \nthe hierarchy. Final
ly we discuss similar problems for stochastic interacting particle systems
on lattices and\nthe corresponding macroscopic limits.
