 r anyone who’s been in Cambridge long enough\, Julian was the lynchpin o
 f the Liberal Democrat stronghold in Cambridge from 2010 to 2015. To other
 s\, he is a distinguished biologist and ex-fellow of Clare College.\n\nRec
 ognised as the ‘top backbencher’ in The Telegraph’s list of ‘Most 
 Influential Lib Dems’\, Julian was seen by some as a voice for rationali
 ty in the emotion-driven Commons. \n\nAccording to his own testimony\, Jul
 ian believes in ‘a free\, fair and open society\, where nobody should be
  enslaved by poverty\, ignorance or conformity’\, and has dedicated his 
 life and career to achieving this goal.\n\nEffective Altruism Cambridge an
 d 80\,000 Hours Cambridge are excited to host this event about scientific 
 approaches to policy-making. \n\nAs always\, the event is opening to all\,
  including those not affiliated with the university. There will be time to
  chat with Julian after the event over free drinks and snacks.
