DESCRIPTION:The gravitational wave detectors LIGO/VIRGO have discovered th
e\nsignals generated by the coalescence of binary black holes at\nastronom
ical distances. The theoretical and numerical works on the\ntwo-body probl
em in general relativity play a very important role when\ndeciphering and
interpreting the gravitational wave signals. In this\ntalk\, after a gener
al review on gravitational waves and the problem\nof motion\, we shall pre
sent the state-of-the-art on approximation methods\nin general relativity\
, such as the famous post-Newtonian expansion\,\nwhich is an expansion whe
n the orbital velocity of the black holes\nis small with respect to the sp
eed of light. We shall show how useful\nis this approximation for the rece
nt GW detections\, and discuss the\nlatest developments in this field.
