DESCRIPTION:Rob Brighouse joins us as the chairman of the newly formed Eas
 t West Railway Company\,  set to deliver the design\, construction and ope
 ration of the missing railway link between Oxford and Cambridge\, and beyo
 nd into East Anglia. Directly owned by the Department of Transport\, the n
 ew organisation shall secure private-sector involvement to design\, build 
 and operate the route as an integrated organisation\, similar to the HS2 o
 rganisation. The new organisation will work with the National Infrastructu
 re Commission as it plans the development of and the best way to deliver t
 he Varsity Line. Lord Adonis of the NIC is speaking separately on the 19th
  January 2018. \n\nThe talk is fully expected to encompass far more than j
 ust the railway\, discussing plans relevant to Cambridge and hopefully som
 e geology too! \n\nMixed audience\, from many different subject areas. All
  welcomed to come.\n\nThe talk is followed by a Members Formal at Sidney S
 ussex College – places are FREE to new student members\, £10 to all oth

 911 from the Cambridge University branch of The Railway Club\, the CURC is
  the second oldest railway enthusiast club in Britain! The CURC tries to a
 rrange an event in Cambridge every week during Full Term. On most Wednesda
 ys or Fridays this involves an invited speaker giving an illustrated talk 
 on a specific subject\, and this is almost always a professional from the 
 rail industry or preservation. We’ve had big names in the past\, includi
 ng senior managers from several Train Operating Companies.\n\nWe also visi
 t railway sites termly including depots\, signalling centres and industria
 l railways for members.\n\nWe give you a chance to meet the top employers 
 from across the industry and have huge success in our members going onto t
 op Graduate employment within the railway industry…whether HS2 \, Balfou
 r Beatty\, Crosscountry\, Network Rail\, DfT etc…\n\nMembership for stud
 ents costs £10 per year or £25 for life membership. You can pay an annua
 l membership now and upgrade to life later – and life does mean life. We
  charge £3 at the door for non-members\, upon your third entry to a talk
