DESCRIPTION:To design columns\, foundations or mooring systems for offshor
 e structures in areas exposed to ice\, accurate estimates of global ice lo
 ads on the structure are required. In this presentation a comparison is ma
 de between the current practice of design of structures in ice and design
 of structures in waves and how loading is determined. The use of numerical
  models could increase the accuracy of ice load and structural response pr
 edictions\, leading to reduced costs and risk of failure. Current use\, ga
 ps and ongoing development of numerical models for ice load prediction on
 structures are discussed.&nbsp\;
