DESCRIPTION:Almost exactly 100 years after they were first predicted by Ei
nstein\, gravitational waves were finally observed for the first time on t
he ground by LIGO. Just three months later LISA Pathfinder was launched to
pave the way for future gravitational wave observations from space. In th
is talk\, some of the motivation behind the century old quest to observe g
ravitational waves is reviewed\, and it is shown that the case for LISA ha
s never been stronger. Finally\, the recent in-flight results obtained by
LISA Pathfinder are presented and discussed in the context of LISA. \n\n**
