DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge Migration Society presents the second seminar in
our series on Humanitarianism and Development in the Governance of Migrat
ion "Crises". \n\nAbout the series: This series brings together developmen
t practitioners\, humanitarian workers\, and academics in various fields t
o explore and critically discuss how policies and practices in the fields
of development\, humanitarianism\, and migration control inform and inters
ect with each other.\n\nAbout this seminar: \nIn the last few years\, huma
nitarian NGOs operating from Sicily have increasingly become key actors in
operations of search and rescue of migrants in distress in the central Me
diterranean. Their efforts have been met with mixed responses from state a
ctors. This seminar seeks to shed light on the ways that humanitarian non-
state actors have responded to a perceived migration crisis in a context o
f repressive control of irregular migration flows.\n\nSpeaker information
 coming soon.
