DESCRIPTION:Cell-specific RNA CLIP\n\nOur laboratory has discovered that n
 eurons have unique systems for regulating RNA metabolism that are used by 
 neurons.  These neuron-specific RNA binding proteins are encoded by multig
 ene families that encode such regulatory factors as Nova\, nElavl\, Mbnl a
 nd RbFox (NeuN).  We developed the CLIP method to precisely map RNA-protei
 n interaction sites in living brain or other tissues with single nucleotid
 e resolution.  This has led to new understanding of the function of these 
 proteins in vivo.  CLIP is a general method\, and we have expanded it to t
 he study of the Fragile-X protein FMRP and Argonaute-microRNA-mRNA ternary
  interactions\, allowing identification of translational control and micro
 RNA binding sites on a transcriptome-wide scale.  We will discuss more rec
 ent explorations of CLIP in functional annotation of the transcriptome\, a
 nd a new platform method to undertake CLIP studies in single cell types wi
 thin the brain.  The increasing resolution of CLIP allows new insights int
 o cell-specific roles of RNA regulation in specific paradigms of normal an
