DESCRIPTION:The latest in the Pembroke-BT Lecture series.\n\nCyber securit
y is one of the greatest man-made challenges of our time. The frequency an
d impact of Cyber-crime is increasing and we need to continuously adapt an
d innovate to stay ahead of the threat environment. It might surprise you\
, but the cost of Cybercrime is set to reach £5 trillion annually by 2021
\, up from £2.5 trillion just a year ago\, Cybersecurity spending will ex
ceed £800 billion from 2017 to 2021\, Up to 200 billion Internet of Thing
s (IoT) devices will need securing by 2020 and human attack surface is pre
dicted to reach 4 billion people by 2020. Security innovation is an essent
ial defence against new threats. \n\nWith cyber-crime rising year-on-year
it’s more important than ever to know that your data is safe\; and a vit
al part of providing a secure digital world is staying a step ahead of cyb
er threats. During the London 2012 Games\, BT’s security systems analyse
d nearly 11\,000 ‘incidents’ or attacks on the BT network every second
! In this Talk\, Professor Ben Azvine\, BT’s Global Head of Security Res
earch and Innovation will focus on the future of Cyber defence and how adv
anced technology including artificial intelligence with data visualisation
will assist humans in identifying interesting or anomalous patterns in hu
ge amounts of different types of data\, so that Cyber detectives can ‘hu
nt the bad guys’ online and keep our data\, applications and networks sa
 fe.\n
