DESCRIPTION:In group theory\, JSJ decomposition is a way of cutting a grou
p up into simpler pieces in a canonical way\, inspired by the 3-manifold d
ecomposition of the same name. In this seminar I'll talk a bit about how i
t's defined and how it behaves\, in particular in the case of a hyperbolic
group. In the hyperbolic case\, a theorem of Brian Bowditch describes how
a particularly useful JSJ decomposition of a group can be read off the st
ructure of local cut points in the boundary of the group. I will describe
 how this is done.
