DESCRIPTION:I plan to talk about one algebraic approach to counting curves
  in a variety\, namely Gromov-Witten theory.  Then there will be some disc
 ussion of the quantum cohomology ring and the other extra structure hidden
  in these invariants.  If time permits I will try and mention how this the
 ory relates to the Floer theory described last week.
