DESCRIPTION:The talk will present some recent work on autonomic Quality-of
 -Service (QoS) management using online performance models. In the first pa
 rt of the talk\, distributed event-based systems will be considered and th
 e issues and challenges in managing their performance and capacity will be
  discussed. The second part of the talk will focus on dynamic service-orie
 nted systems looking at enterprise Grid environments as an example. We wil
 l present a novel methodology for designing autonomic QoS-aware resource m
 anagers that have the capability to predict the performance of the compone
 nts they manage and allocate resources in such a way that service level ag
 reements are honored. Advanced features such as workload characterization 
 on-the-fly\, dynamic deployment of servers on demand\, as well as dynamic 
 system reconfiguration after a server failure will be considered.
