DESCRIPTION:Synchronous privilege checks are the norm in existing distribu
 ted security infrastructures. This talk presents initial work on asynchron
 ous revocation using publish/subscribe middleware. Our goal is to explore 
 the trade-off between synchronous RPC and back-channel revocation. The for
 mer induces higher response latency and a larger number of messages on the
  wire\, while the latter carries the risk that security messages do not pr
 opagate sufficiently quickly. We have implemented a simple distributed auc
 tion application to test and validate the pub/sub infrastructure\, with a 
 view to applying it to CareGrid and the upcoming Smart Flow project.\n
