 858\, concluding that humans had existed there for over 13\,000 years. Thi
 s talk discusses Hekekyan’s remarkable field records and the publication
 ’s mixed reception to illuminate the roles of local knowledge and Egypto
 logy within contentious mid-Victorian debates about human antiquity and Sc
 riptural authority.
