DESCRIPTION:The Hughes Hall Postdoctoral Research Group organizes the semi
 nar Beyond Research.\n\n_According to the Royal Society over 95% of STEM P
 hD holders in the UK will leave academia due to the lack of permanent rese
 arch positions._\n \nThe academic landscape has changed dramatically over 
 the last years. More PhD than ever are awarded and the number of permanent
  research post has not increased proportionally. Furthermore\, the increas
 ing pressure to publish that students and post-docs face mean that they do
  not have sufficient time or opportunity to explore alternative routes to 
 academia. \n\nIn this seminar\, we will give students and postdocs a chanc
 e to reflect on the impeding questions of _What is beyond academia?_ and _
 how can I bridge the gap between the academic and external worlds?_\n \nWe
  will have three speakers that have transited from academia in to non-acad
 emic roles to come and talk to us about their experiences\, rewards and di
 fficulties during the process. They will tell us their stories in short an
 d accessible formats. At the end of the seminar\, we will have a round tab
 le where the attendees will be able to pose questions of concern regarding
