DESCRIPTION:Peter Capaldi’s transformation from Malcolm Tucker into the
Doctor\, was every bit as profound as the Doctor’s own regeneration. How
ever\, swapping television’s finest satire for television’s finest sci
-fi did not entail ditching politics. Science fiction from Mary Shelley to
Octavia E. Butler\, has _always_ reflected contemporary concerns. This ta
lk situates Peter Capaldi’s adventures in time and space in the context
of the War on Terror considering the ways in which Capaldi’s stories hav
e explored the dehumanising effects of ‘non-linear’ and ‘hybrid warf
are’\, in the search of impossible peace.
