DESCRIPTION:Health Economics @ Cambridge are happy to present Anna Heath\,
UCL\, for a seminar on the development of a new tool to calculate the Est
imated Value of Sample Information (EVSI). The seminar will discuss EVSI w
ithin the broader Value of Information (VoI) framework\, and how the new t
ool can be used for determining which research is worth undertaking.\n\n*T
 ime:* 15:00-16:00 Monday 23rd April 2018\n*Venue:* Large Seminar Room\, 1s
 t Floor\, Institute of Public Health\, University Forvie Site\, Robinson W
 ay\, Cambridge\n\nInformation can also be found "here":http://www.publiche
 alth.cam.ac.uk/23-april-2018-anna-heath/.\n\n*About the seminar:*\nThe Exp
ected Value of Sample Information (EVSI) uses evidence about the costs and
effectiveness of different interventions to calculate the economic value
of specific trial designs. Despite the potential benefits of using the EVS
I\, in terms of finding economically valuable trial designs\, practical ap
plications have been limited due to computational difficulties and ease of
interpreting the results. Recently\, methods have been developed to allow
for the efficient computation of the EVSI across different trial designs.
This allows researchers to use the EVSI as a tool for clinical trial desi
gn. This talk will present a recent method for EVSI calculation that is ba
sed on variance calculations and Bayesian updating alongside an R package
that has been developed to aid with EVSI calculations. An example based o
n the HomeHealth feasibility study will be demonstrated to show how the EV
SI can be used in a real world setting. We also demonstrate the capabiliti
es of an R Shiny tool that has been developed for the presentation of the
EVSI to key stakeholders.\n\n*Anna Heath:*\nAnna is undertaking a PhD at U
niversity College London (UCL) applying statistical methods to health econ
omic evaluations within the Statistics for Health Economic Evaluations Gro
up. Her main research interests are applying Bayesian statistical analysis
to health economic evaluations. She is specifically interested in decisio
n making under uncertainty using Value of Information methods for sensitiv
ity analysis and clinical trial design.\n\n*All welcome. Part of the HE@Ca
 m seminars 2017/18 series.*\n\nFor any questions\, please contact healthec
