DESCRIPTION:The conch shell is constructed from 99% chalk (by mass)\, and
yet it is thousands of times tougher than monolithic chalk. Discussed are
the toughening mechanisms of how this is realized\, and what lessons may
be learnt for constructing advanced composite materials.
