DESCRIPTION:I recently spent 9 months living in Kathmandu working with a\n
 local NGO (called NSET) that specializes in earthquake risk mitigation.\nM
 y project involved doing a new probabilistic seismic hazard analysis\n(PSH
 A) of Nepal which will go on to inform an update to the Nepali\nbuilding c
 ode.\nI will briefly talk about my time spent doing a PhD in earthquakes a
 t\nCaltech\, and how this led to me becoming interested in international\n
 development and disaster risk reduction. I will spend most of the time\nta
 lking about Nepal\, my work there and PSHA\, and general seismic hazard\ni
 ssues that the country faces. I will finish by talking about my fairly\nre
 cently acquired job with RMS\, a catastrophe modeling firm\, which works\n
 mainly with insurance companies\, but also with DFID\, the World Bank etc.
 \non some hazard/risk projects with developing countries.\nI will also bri
 efly mention two shorter projects I was involved in:\nEcotourism in Northe
 rn India as a volunteer\, with an NGO based in India\nand Analyzing drough
 t risk in Africa\, as an intern at the UN based in\nGermany.
