DESCRIPTION:For our second lecture of Lent term\, we are excited to welcom
 e Professor Stephen Belcher\, who was appointed Met Office Chief Scientist
  in 2016. In this position\, he is responsible for the leading the 600-str
 ong Met Office's scientific programme. He led the evolution of the Met off
 ice Hadley Centre to focus on climate science and services\, and was the d
 riving force behind the initiation of the Newton Fund Climate Science for 
 Service Partnership China. \n\nProf Belcher obtained his PhD in fluid dyna
 mics from the University of Cambridge in 1990\, becoming a research fellow
  at Stanford and Cambridge Universities and later at the University of Rea
