Abstract
Black hole accretion is well know to be mediated by MHD turbulence. Many numerical studies of these systems also find evidence for dynamo action, often seen as quasi-periodic buoyant expulsions of toroidal flux from the disk plane. Using a recent set of high-resolution numerical global models, I will show that the dynamo may be imprint itself on the gross aspects of the observed time variability and, indeed, it may be very hard to gain an even qualitative understanding of the observations without understanding the dynamo in more depth.
