Towards a Hecke algebra for fundamental groups of graphs of groups

Abstract
A Hecke algebra H is an important tool in representation theory of group algebras kG. Many different objects are called Hecke algebras, but they are often endomorphism algebras of some kG module V, and so allow you to study representations of the group G by looking at V as an H-kG bimodule. In this talk, I will give an overview of some of the ways to define Hecke algebras. I’ll then discuss how well they apply to certain infinite groups given by actions on trees. This will consider a couple of generalizations of Serre’s groups of tree automorphisms that involve almost automorphisms in the style of Thompson’s group V. This talk is work in progress and aims to explain the classical theory clearly rather than present new results.
