The 6th Annual Sir John Walker Lecture, 'Genomics approaches to mitochondrial physiology and disease'
- đ¤ Speaker: Vamsi K Mootha MD, HHMI and Harvard Medical School, USA
- đ Date & Time: Thursday 22 February 2018, 16:30 - 17:30
- đ Venue: Max Perutz Lecture Theatre, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge Biomedical Campus
Abstract
I will present our lab’s efforts to utilize genomics approaches to achieve a holistic and mechanistic understanding of mitochondria in health and disease. This talk will be organized into three sections. First, I will present our lab’s efforts employing computational genomics to systematically identify all of the molecular components of the mitochondrial calcium uniporter. Having identified all of these components, an ongoing challenge lies in achieving a mechanistic understanding of how these components operate together. Second, I will review our past efforts utilizing genomic sequencing to investigate the molecular genetic basis of mitochondrial disease, and more recent work aimed at understanding their molecular pathogenesis. Third, I will present our latest efforts to utilize genome-scale genetic screening to identify new therapeutic strategies for alleviating mitochondrial disease.
Series This talk is part of the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit Seminars series.
