Abstract
Sequencing of DNA is becoming routine in both research and clinical settings, and offers the potential to transform medicine across the world. Current DNA sequencing technologies have inherent shortcomings which result in the loss of important information and so limit their applications. To overcome these difficulties, new technologies are needed which can directly read single molecules of DNA and provide information beyond the four base pairs. This presents a formidable sensing challenge which a number of techniques have attempted to address, with varying degrees of success.
This talk will give an overview of the challenges involved in sequencing single molecules of DNA and the approaches being taken to tackle them, and will present details of Base4’s unique sequencing technology and how it allows some of these challenges to be avoided.
