Abstract
On a scale of decades to centuries, the ice sheets over Antarctica and Greenland flow as gravity currents. However, unlike, say, golden syrup on a plate, ice sheets show significant slipping at their base. I will discuss simple models of this, and their derivations, based on the rheology of ice, and the basal conditions of the sheets.
