Abstract
Depression dramatically reduces quality of life for 17% of individuals in the United Kingdom. Psychological treatments for depression are effective for most people, but there is still a significant number of individuals who do not experience adequate improvement. Utilising cognitive science to elucidate the cognitive factors that both drive depression and underpin treatment change is vital to improving psychological treatments. This talk will discuss how basic cognitive science is being translated into new treatment options. In particular, the development of novel memory-based interventions will be discussed.
