Abstract
Abstract:
Aberrant learning and memory underlie symptom-development and maintenance in addiction, anxiety and trauma-related disorders. Using pharmacological and behavioural strategies in the critical period of memory instability shortly after encoding or retrieval, we are investigating whether it is possible to overwrite or weaken maladaptive memories in these disorders. In this talk I will outline some of the conditions that might be important for reducing the maladaptive influence of aberrant memories in heavy drinkers, and for limiting the development of intrusive memories in an experimental model of PTSD .
