Modeling and measuring the cosmic density PDF

Abstract
It has long been proposed that higher order moments of the density field or even the complete one-point PDF of density encodes a rich amount of cosmological information. However, measuring these quantities has been very difficult, e.g. because of galaxy stochasticity. With density split statistics (DSS) one can simultaneously study the PDF of matter density and the PDF of galaxy density. Our modeling based on perturbation theory of the density field thus enables us to learn about the background cosmology, the skewness of the density field and the bias and stochasticity of halos at the same time. I will present our model as well as results of our DES year 1 analysis.
