Abstract
This presentation/workshop will provide insights into technical aspects of the REF , including some ‘backstage’ processes and the all-important question of the interpretation of REF criteria. Focusing on the 3/4 boundary, we will engage directly in peer assessment of three contrasting, but high quality, pre-circulated outputs. Finally, we will stand back from the immediacy of REF games to consider the longer-term issue of how to develop academic careers which have the potential for producing world-leading research. There will be opportunities for discussion and questions throughout.
1. Understanding REF assessment processes and REF criteria
2. Assessing outputs in REF terms (Perry, Fuller, Mitchell to be pre-circulated)
3. Personal career strategies for 3/4 outputs
