Abstract
Regular physics invokes fundamental theories that are implicitly matter-based, with the corollary that life depends on special configurations of matter. A radical change in the the basic conceptual model leads to a state of affairs where at the deepest level behaviour of a biological or cognitive character is the norm, giving a very different perspective on phenomena such as insight and creativity, as well as on processes such as extra-sensory perception (ESP) that traditionally are considered anomalies.
Note added after talk (21 Feb. 2008): the ‘radical change’ lies in the assumption that fundamental reality has the form of a self-organising critical system. Further details will be added later.
