Abstract
In holography, the Ryu-Takayanagi conjecture relates the entropy associated to a region on the boundary with the area of a certain minimal surface in the bulk. I will describe the standard arguments for the validity of this conjecture, and argue that these arguments suffer from a common weakness â their use of the so-called ‘replica trick’. I will then present a new approach to proving the conjecture which does not rely upon the replica trick.
