Abstract
Our starting point is the following obviously absurd question. Suppose that a large group are set to vote on a yes/no issue: each person will vote (in the usual way: in secret, at the same time) and then the `outcome’ is taken to be the majority decision. Each voter wants their vote to be right, but no voter has any idea at all about the issue. How should they vote? This talk is suitable for a general audience.
