Structural Design in Context, and IT Tools to Support Design
- đ¤ Speaker: Dr Peter Demian (Loughborough University)
- đ Date & Time: Friday 09 May 2008, 15:00 - 16:00
- đ Venue: Engineering Department - LR6
Abstract
Structural design is often considered in isolation during undergraduate degree programmes. The talk will emphasise the importance of placing design in the wider context of other building design disciplines, and in the context of the whole life cycle of constructed facilities. IT tools will be presented for supporting design, including a tool developed during an undergraduate project at Cambridge for pre-stressed concrete bridge design, and a tool for design reuse developed during PhD research at Stanford University. The talk will conclude by describing current and future research on the national importance of design and design education.
Series This talk is part of the Engineering Department Structures Research Seminars series.
