The effect of temperature differences on cross-ventilation

Abstract
Buildings can be ventilated using energy efficient methods such a natural ventilation. To maintain expected comfort levels and remove contaminants, we need to be able to predict and control the flows inside naturally ventilated buildings. One popular method for naturally ventilating a room is through windows at opposite sides of a room and at the same height, known as cross-ventilation. We examine the effect of an indoor-outdoor temperature difference on a cross-ventilated room. The results of laboratory experiments using a water flume and a model room at 1/10th scale will be presented and compared to theory.
