Abstract
The Cambridge University Energy Network (CUEN) is delighted to host the renowned lecturer Dr. Jim Platts, as part of our lecture series.
In this seminar we will show how wind energy technology is developing and illustrate the ethos underlying the industry’s concern for environmental, economic and social sustainability.
In the 1980s Dr. Platts created the designs, the manufacturing technology and the company that manufactures all the large wind turbine blades produced in the UK. He is now substantially involved in helping develop the wind energy industry in China and he is based at the University of Cambridge Institute for Manufacturing.
“Britain is no longer a manufacturing nation, so few people in the UK appreciate the size of the wind energy industry globally, nor do they understand the key elements of the technology, what makes it sustainable and what is afoot to further improve its sustainability.”
