Ocean modelling from the Ross to the Tasman Sea

This presentation provides a broad overview of recent ocean modelling initiatives in New Zealand, based on NEMO . These projects include high resolution nested configurations for the Ross Sea region as well as bio-geochemistry. The nested projects are predominately used to improve Antarctic bottom water outflow and to characterize the 3-dimensional structure/variability of the Ross Gyre and to track toothfish larvae. Bio-geochemistry applications target the longterm changes in the Ross Sea Marine Protected Area and Southern Ocean upwelling. Results of marine heatwaves in the Tasman Sea are being presented and how they are linked to heat transport of East Australian Current and Tasman Sea.
