Cool liquid crystals
- đ¤ Speaker: Guillaume Nataf, 1851 Research Fellow, Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy
- đ Date & Time: Wednesday 06 March 2019, 13:00 - 14:00
- đ Venue: Combination Room, Wolfson College
Abstract
Current cooling technologies exploit large thermal changes that occur in fluids when driving liquid to gas phase transitions with pressure. However, these vapour-compression technologies are harmful to the environment and display low energy efficiencies. By contrast, Guillaume will show that cooling based on pressure-driven thermal changes in liquid crystals promise novel environmentally friendly cooling technologies with high energy efficiencies.
