Abstract
In the first randomized trial in 40 years showing police decisions causing a reduction in repeat domestic abuse, the Institute of Criminology recently published an evaluation of the Hampshire CARA project for first offenders. The speakers explain what they found in the context of previous research, discussing the qualitative observations of offender workshops that help explain the quantitative results. They also review the policy developments in the first year since the experiment was published.
