Abstract
Abstract: Computing, medicine or nuclear engineering, are just a few examples where superconductivity can be applied. Superconductors make possible the transfer of high density current without any resistance, overcoming one of the main limitations linked to energy transport on conventional wires -heat losses.
In this talk you will be introduced to key moments in the history of superconductivity and some of its most highlighted applications from macro-scale to nano-scale devices. At a small scale, it will be covered how superconducting thin films are fabricated, characterized, and some of its applications in the field of Super-Spintronics developed in the Device Materials research group, at the University of Cambridge.
Series This talk is part of the Wolfson College Science Society series.
