Abstract
The classical singularity theorems of General Relativity show that a Lorentzian manifold with a smooth metric that satisfies physically reasonable conditions cannot be geodesically complete. In my talk I will discuss current work in progress on proving Hawking’s singularity theorem for metrics that are locally W with p greater than the spacetime dimension and how similar considerations should also allow for a proof of a version of the Penrose singularity theorem. This improves upon recent previous work establishing singularity theorems for C{1,1} metrics.
