Abstract
Every day, thousands of people around the world are migrating from rural areas to cities in search of a better livelihood. Productive uses of energy (PUE) and its integration with other rural sectors are crucial for realising the economic potential of villages and regions (by creating employment and economic opportunities). Despite this, PUE is not a given in off-grid rural electrification developments. One reason for this is the lack of policy to foster PUE . In this seminar, the limits of energy policy to enhance PUE are explored and potential solutions are discussed.
